Senator Bob Menendez Found Guilty on All 18 Counts of Corruption

Senator Bob Menendez has been found guilty on all 18 counts of corruption by a jury in Newark, New Jersey. This marks the second trial for Menendez, who previously evaded conviction due to a mistrial in 2017. However, this time the jury was not swayed by his defense and delivered a resounding verdict.

Menendez, also known as “Gold Bars,” had claimed that his actions were part of his official duties and in the best interest of his constituents. His lawyer, Adam Fee, argued that Menendez was doing exactly what elected officials should do. However, the evidence presented by prosecutors painted a different picture.

Prosecutors revealed a shocking list of favors that Menendez had allegedly accepted in exchange for his influence, including interfering in investigations, pressuring government agencies, and using his position on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to secure aid for Egypt. The bribes allegedly included a Mercedes, no-show jobs, and substantial amounts of cash and gold bars.

US Attorney Damien Williams expressed his frustration, stating that Menendez’s actions went beyond politics as usual and were driven by personal profit. The jury agreed, convicting Menendez on 16 felony counts, including fraud, bribery, extortion, obstructing justice, and acting as an illegal foreign agent.

Menendez now faces the possibility of a sentence totaling more than 200 years. Calls for his resignation have been widespread, but he has defied them and continues his bid for reelection as an independent. Some speculate that he may be seeking a presidential pardon after the upcoming election.

In light of Menendez’s massive corruption and refusal to step down, there are growing demands for the Senate to take immediate action. Many believe that he should become the first senator to be expelled in over a century. Rather than waiting for the Ethics Committee, there are calls to strip him of any opportunity to abuse his office further.
