Security Guard Shot During Robbery at Oakland Smoke Shop

A security guard, aged 41, was shot multiple times during a robbery at the It Iz What It Iz Smoke Shop in Oakland’s Hoover-Foster neighborhood. The incident occurred at approximately 12:52 a.m. on Wednesday. The guard, whose identity remains undisclosed, is currently in stable condition at a local hospital, recovering from more than two gunshot wounds.

According to authorities, two men entered the smoke shop and lingered for a brief period. One of the suspects proceeded to approach the cashier, brandishing a firearm and demanding money, while the other acted as a lookout. It remains unclear whether the guard was aware of the suspect’s weapon. Reportedly, the guard did not immediately draw his own firearm as he approached the suspect.

The armed suspect swiftly grabbed cash from the cashier and attempted to flee. However, before making his escape, he opened fire on the security guard. In response, the guard managed to draw his own weapon and fired at least one shot at the robber and his accomplice. There is no indication that either suspect sustained any injuries.

The two suspects quickly fled the scene in a waiting vehicle. Detailed descriptions of the perpetrators have not been released to the public. In an effort to apprehend the robbers, the Oakland Police Department and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering a reward of up to $7,500 for any information leading to their arrest.
