Second Suspect Extradited in Lake Tahoe-Area Murder of Former MLB player Daniel Serafini’s Parents-in-Law

Samantha Scott

Samantha Scott, the second suspect in a fatal shooting at a Lake Tahoe-area house in 2021, has been extradited from Nevada to California, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. Scott was escorted off a small aircraft by deputies and transported to a Placer County Sheriff’s Office facility. She arrived at the sheriff’s office at 2 p.m. and was booked at the Auburn jail shortly after her arrival. Scott is scheduled to be arraigned on November 6 at 1 p.m.

Scott and former MLB player Daniel Serafini were arrested on October 20 in Nevada in connection to a shooting in June 2021 that resulted in the death of Robert Spohr. Serafini was arrested in Winnemucca, Nevada, while Scott was detained in Las Vegas. Serafini was extradited to California on October 27 and pleaded not guilty in his first court appearance on October 31. He remains in custody without bail and is expected to appear in court again on November 27.

The shooting also left Wendy Wood, Spohr’s wife, injured. Wood underwent months of physical rehabilitation but passed away later. Spohr and Wood were the parents of Serafini’s wife, and a legal dispute over their inheritance had been ongoing between Serafini’s wife and her sister since their parents’ deaths.
