Seaside Man Faces Extradition to Indiana for Threatening University Officials on Social Media

A Seaside man, Nicholas Wheeler, 27, is currently in federal custody in Dublin, awaiting extradition to Indiana. Wheeler faces charges of repeatedly threatening university officials at Indiana State University through the social media platform X, according to court records. The charges were filed on March 20, and Wheeler was apprehended five days later at his residence in Seaside.

During a search of Wheeler’s property, law enforcement discovered six firearms, including one that closely resembled a handgun he had allegedly posted on X alongside a selfie. The criminal complaint states that the post contained a menacing message: “I’m coming back you ain’t gonna like me because I have my mg-m2 machine gun now.” The complaint further reveals that Wheeler’s social media posts contained explicit threats, racial slurs, and delusional claims, such as a professor paying $50,000 to have Wheeler assaulted and “sterilized” in his apartment, along with demands for $500,000.

One of the posts cited in the complaint reads, “I have a fully loaded 200 round MG-M2 machine gun. An uzi, an ar15, and a few glocks (sic). I’m gonna have revenge. I went ahead and bought level 4 body armor and a bulletproof helmet.” The posts specifically targeted Indiana State University officials and mentioned their family members.

Federal prosecutors have charged Wheeler with two counts of transmitting threats online, which could result in a maximum prison sentence of 20 years if he is convicted. The specific types of firearms seized from Wheeler’s residence were not disclosed, except for the mention that one of them resembled the handgun displayed in his online selfie.

During Wheeler’s recent court hearing, it was confirmed that he has a scheduled psychological evaluation later this week. U.S. Magistrate Judge Susan van Keulen ordered Wheeler to be detained while the extradition process is underway. However, this ruling may be re-evaluated by a different judge once Wheeler is extradited to Southern Indiana. In the meantime, he remains incarcerated without bail, according to court records.

  1. Nicholas Wheeler’s situation can be likened to a fisherman who has been caught in a net and is now being transported to a different location. Just like the fisherman is taken from the sea to a new environment, Nicholas Wheeler is being held in federal custody in Dublin, away from his familiar surroundings in Seaside. The process of extradition is similar to the fisherman being transferred to a different location for legal proceedings.
