Scotland Sends Fugitive Nicholas Rossi Back to Utah to Face Rape Charges

The individual claiming to be an Irish orphan named Arthur Knight has been legally identified as Nicholas Rossi, a registered sex offender, according to a recent court ruling. The 36-year-old was arrested in December 2021 at a hospital in Glasgow, Scotland, where he was receiving treatment for Covid-19.

Rossi is sought by authorities in Utah, USA, in relation to rape allegations. He reportedly departed from Edinburgh Airport on a private flight on a recent Friday. A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed their involvement in the extradition process of a 36-year-old man.

Further investigations are underway by Essex police regarding a separate, historical rape allegation made against Rossi in April 2022. He has been released on bail until March of this year.

On December 14, Rossi’s final appeal against extradition to the United States was denied. Scotland’s Justice Secretary Angela Constance had previously approved the extradition decision in September. Rossi, detained at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, had claimed mistaken identity, asserting he was Arthur Knight. However, Edinburgh Sheriff Court determined his identity as Rossi, based on matching tattoos and fingerprints. Sheriff Norman McFadyen dismissed Rossi’s claim that the tattoos were framed while he was unconscious.

In 2008, Rossi was convicted of sexual imposition and public indecency at Sinclair College in Dayton, Ohio. He was accused of assaulting a former girlfriend.

First Minister Humza Yousaf, while cautious not to influence any future inquiry or court case, acknowledged the effectiveness of Scottish and US authorities’ collaboration in this matter. He stated his trust in the judicial process and anticipated justice in the United States.
