Road Rage Shooting Claims the Life of Beloved Bayu Bistro Owner in Galveston County

In a shocking act of road rage, 67-year-old Gregory Sheritt, the beloved owner of Bayu Bistro, was tragically gunned down in Galveston County. The incident, captured on a dashcam video, has led to the arrest and subsequent guilty plea of 23-year-old Messiah Pickins McCoy for murder.

The motive behind this senseless act was revealed to be road rage, according to the Galveston County District Attorney’s office. It was reported that Sheritt was attempting to change lanes when he found himself in the same lane as Pickins McCoy. In a split second, tragedy struck as several shots were fired, one of which fatally struck Sheritt in the back of the head.

Sheritt’s widow, still grappling with the immense grief, shared the chilling details of her husband’s final moments. She described how he tragically drowned in his own blood as the bullet ricocheted through his head. The pain and disbelief she feels are immeasurable, as she mourns the loss of a generous, creative, and energetic man. The impact of this tragedy will forever alter the lives of their family, and their youngest grandchildren will never truly know the remarkable person Sheritt was.

Following the shooting, another investigation was underway nearby on Shiloh Avenue, according to the Texas City Police Department. One officer, upon hearing the gunshots, immediately pursued Pickins McCoy, leading to his eventual arrest. While road rage incidents are not common in Galveston County, law enforcement agencies in Houston have initiated a new crackdown, partnering with multiple agencies to increase patrols on roadways, starting with the Southwest Freeway.

The fact that Sheritt lost his life to road rage is still surreal for his widow and the community. As the owner of Bayu Bistro, he was a beloved figure, known for his generosity and creativity. The loss of such a vibrant individual has left a void that can never be filled.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the hope for justice remains strong. Pickins McCoy’s guilty plea to murder carries a sentence of 40 years behind bars. While this may provide some solace to Sheritt’s grieving family, the pain of their loss will forever remain.

The road rage shooting that claimed the life of Gregory Sheritt serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can arise from such senseless acts. It is a tragedy that has shaken the community of Galveston County and serves as a call for increased awareness and efforts to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
