In a disturbing incident of road rage, a heated argument between two individuals turned violent, resulting in a shooting. The Santa Rosa Police Department swiftly responded to the incident, leading to the arrest of two individuals involved.
The incident unfolded on Wednesday around 11:40 a.m. in the 900 block of Pressley Street in Santa Rosa. A Santa Rosa Police Department Field and Evidence Technician, who was in the process of towing a vehicle, witnessed the driver of a black Volkswagen Tiguan firing a gun from his vehicle into the back glass of a grey Nissan Altima. Following the shooting, both vehicles fled westbound on Pressley Street.
The vigilant technician immediately reported the shooting using her portable radio, prompting responding officers to locate the cars driving northbound on Santa Rosa Avenue. The driver of the Nissan Altima pulled over to the side of the road, while the driver of the Volkswagen Tiguan, identified as 34-year-old William Kammerer from Rohnert Park, engaged in a high-speed police pursuit. Shockingly, Kammerer drove the wrong way on Santa Rosa Avenue before abandoning his vehicle near Mendocino Avenue and Fifth Street, attempting to flee on foot.
However, law enforcement officers managed to detain Kammerer in a parking garage in the 600 block of Third Street. During the subsequent investigation, police discovered two firearms, one of which was used in the shooting.
The victim, a 20-year-old resident of Petaluma, was identified as the target of Kammerer’s aggression. The altercation between Kammerer and the victim began as a road rage incident near the intersection of Hendley Street and Pressley Street. Kammerer fired a single round at the victim’s vehicle, shattering the back glass. Despite the victim’s attempt to escape, Kammerer fired two additional rounds at the victim. In self-defense, the victim fired at least one round at Kammerer’s vehicle before ultimately surrendering to the Santa Rosa Police Department officers. The officers recovered the victim’s firearm.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of this alarming shooting.
Following the incident, Kammerer was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail on various charges. The victim, whose identity remains anonymous due to being a victim of a violent crime, was also arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail on charges related to the incident.
