York Regional Police are appealing for witnesses following two suspected arson incidents at businesses in Richmond Hill. On September 3, at around 3:45 a.m., authorities were alerted to a fire at a plaza situated at the junction of Highway 7 East and Leslie Street. Surveillance footage captured two individuals, one potentially with hand burns, fleeing the scene towards Wertheim Court. The incident saw Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services swiftly containing the fire, with an ensuing investigation launched to apprehend the suspects.
In a possibly connected event on September 4, a separate business within the same plaza experienced a fire at approximately 4:55 a.m., sustaining significant damage. Two male suspects were spotted with liquid containers near the scene around the time of the incident, later seen running in the direction of Wertheim Court. Authorities suspect a link between the two fires, possibly involving a white four-door vehicle observed during the first incident. Police are urging any witnesses to step forward with information.
