Reality television star Karen Huger, known for her role in the “Real Housewives of Potomac,” was arrested by Maryland police for driving under the influence following a single-vehicle collision involving her Maserati. The incident occurred in Potomac, Montgomery County, late Tuesday night, as confirmed by a spokesperson from the Montgomery County Police Department.
According to officers at the scene, Huger, 60, had veered across a median and collided with street signs. She was subsequently arrested and cited for driving under the influence, along with other traffic violations. Huger was later released from police custody. Representatives for Huger and Bravo, the network airing the reality show, have not yet responded to requests for comment from The Times.
Huger, in a statement shared with TMZ, attributed the accident to her ongoing grief over the loss of her mother in 2017. She expressed that the approaching Mother’s Day had intensified her emotions, comparing them to a tsunami. Huger revealed that she had engaged in a conversation about sensitive topics during a dinner with a friend before the crash. Overwhelmed with emotions, she claimed to have swerved to avoid a collision with another vehicle that was “heading right for me.” Huger stated that she subsequently hit the other driver and then a tree. Allegedly, the other driver fled the scene.
While Huger acknowledged receiving citations, she mentioned that one of them was unrelated to the incident, without providing further details. She urged drivers to consider their emotional state before driving and emphasized the importance of wearing seat belts, crediting one with saving her life. Huger’s mother, Georgia Raines Wooden, passed away in November 2017 due to kidney failure, and her father, Benjamin B. Wooden Jr., died of natural causes in July 2018.
