Real Housewives of Orange County Star Shannon Beador Pleads No Contest to DUI Charges

Real Housewives of Orange County cast member Shannon Beador pleaded no contest to DUI charges on Thursday, November 2. Despite objections from prosecutors who sought jail time, Beador received probation and community service. The plea deal allowed Beador to plead no contest to two misdemeanor DUI charges and have a misdemeanor hit and run charge dismissed.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Brett London sentenced Beador to three years of informal probation, 40 hours of community service, and enrollment in a first-time offender alcohol program. The crash resulting from the incident left Beador with a fractured left wrist, a cut, and bruising around her left eye. Prosecutors stated that her blood-alcohol level was three times the legal limit at 0.24%.

In a statement following the hearing, Beador expressed gratitude that no one else was injured and acknowledged her mistake, stating that driving while impaired is unacceptable. The prosecution and Beador’s defense attorney presented arguments about the severity of the court offer in written briefs prior to the hearing. The defense attorney claimed that Beador had taken responsibility for her actions and had compensated the victim for the property damage.

Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer criticized Judge London’s decision to offer the plea deal and dismiss the hit and run charge. Spitzer emphasized the need for consequences for driving under the influence and called for society to address the serious and often deadly consequences of such actions.

Shannon Beador joined the Bravo reality show “Real Housewives of Orange County” in 2014. The show has featured Beador, Tamra Judge, and former housewife Vicki Gunvalson, who have been known for their partying and tequila consumption.
