Rapper Tory Lanez Awaits Sentencing for Megan Thee Stallion Shooting

Rapper Tory Lanez is currently awaiting sentencing for the shooting of fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion, an incident that occurred three years ago. Megan, who testified during the trial, revealed the emotional toll the incident has taken on her, stating that she has not experienced a day of peace since being shot. Although she struggled with the decision to appear in person, Megan opted for a written statement as she could not bear being in the same room as Lanez again. In her statement read by Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Kathy Ta, she requested a strong sentence from Judge David Herriford.

Initially planned as a short hearing, the proceeding turned into a two-day marathon as attorneys presented various factors for consideration in Lanez’s potential sentence. Additionally, the judge allowed testimonies from seven witnesses, including Lanez’s father and the mother of his child, discussing his charitable contributions, childhood trauma, and parenting skills.

Prosecutors are seeking a 13-year sentence for Lanez, who has been convicted of three felonies: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. Conversely, Lanez’s lawyers argue for his release from jail into a residential substance abuse program, suggesting probation as an appropriate punishment. They plan to appeal the conviction.

The final sentencing is expected on Tuesday afternoon, pending the resolution of remaining legal matters. Lanez is likely to learn his fate at that time. During Megan’s trial testimony, she detailed how Lanez fired the gun at the back of her feet and demanded she dance as she walked away from the SUV they were in, following a party at Kylie Jenner’s Hollywood Hills home in the summer of 2020.
