WWE superstar Randy Orton finds himself in a state of conflict as he grapples with the allegations of sexual assault and sex trafficking leveled against former WWE chairman Vince McMahon. In a recent phone interview with The Post, Orton admitted to being torn and uncertain about what to believe regarding the bombshell federal lawsuit filed by a former female WWE employee.
Orton, who has worked closely with McMahon throughout his 24-year WWE career, expressed his lack of knowledge about the allegations, stating that he has only seen information online. The 43-year-old wrestler acknowledged the positive impact McMahon has had on his career, crediting him for providing second and third chances and shaping the position he currently holds within WWE.
However, Orton also acknowledged the possibility of McMahon committing grave mistakes, recognizing his humanity. The lawsuit filed by Janel Grant accuses McMahon of physical harm, including the use of fists and other objects, as well as sexual assault. Grant further alleges that McMahon forced her into sexual relationships to maintain her employment and distributed explicit images and videos of her to other individuals, including fellow WWE employees. It is important to note that McMahon is currently under federal investigation in relation to these allegations.
Following the public revelation of the lawsuit, McMahon resigned as executive chairman of WWE’s parent company TKO. He has vehemently denied Grant’s claims, labeling them as lies and a vindictive distortion of the truth. McMahon has expressed his intention to vigorously defend himself and clear his name.
Orton, who is set to participate in the men’s Elimination Chamber match in Perth, Australia, acknowledged the difficulty in discussing specifics without hearing McMahon’s side of the story. He echoed fellow WWE star Cody Rhodes’ sentiment that the situation has cast a dark cloud over the company.
