Premier League Players Tonali and Zaniolo Sent Back to Clubs Amid Betting Investigation

Premier League players Sandro Tonali and Nicolò Zaniolo have been sent back to their respective clubs from Italy’s training camp after being notified by police of their involvement in a betting investigation. The move comes following an inquiry by Turin prosecutors into alleged online betting via unauthorized websites. Juventus midfielder Nicolò Fagioli has also acknowledged being investigated in the same case. Police were seen at the national team’s training center to question the players, leading the Italian soccer federation to announce that Tonali and Zaniolo had received official notifications of their involvement in the Turin inquiry. As a result, the federation has decided to allow the players to return to their clubs, citing their unpreparedness to face upcoming matches. Tonali currently plays as a midfielder for Newcastle, having transferred from AC Milan in July, while Zaniolo is an attacking midfielder-forward at Aston Villa on loan from Galatasaray. Italy is scheduled to host Malta on Saturday and then visit England three days later for European Championship qualifying matches.
