Investigators are intensifying their efforts to unravel the mysterious death of a 23-year-old pregnant Amish woman in rural Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania State Police have classified the incident as a criminal homicide and are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of answers.
Rebekah Byler was discovered lifeless inside her residence on Monday afternoon, prompting authorities to deem the circumstances surrounding her death as suspicious. According to reports from ABC News affiliate WJET, Byler, who was six months pregnant, was home with her two young children when her life was tragically cut short. Notably, her husband was reportedly absent during the time of the incident.
The tight-knit community of Spartansburg is reeling from the shocking news, with residents expressing their deep concern for the Amish community. Charleen Hajec, the owner of Spartansburg Pharmacy, conveyed her heartbreak, stating, “I’m just absolutely heartbroken that this has happened. I’m very concerned about the Amish community and worried for them.”
Pennsylvania State Police are leaving no stone unturned in their investigation, actively pursuing all available leads. Trooper Cindy Schick, the public information officer, emphasized the urgency of the situation, urging anyone with information to come forward. “We want to solve this just like the community wants us to solve it. So any information that’s out there, we want people to come forward and help us resolve this issue,” Trooper Schick stated.
Family members have reported seeing a red jeep in the victim’s driveway around 10 a.m. on the day of the incident. Witnesses also observed the same vehicle driving up and down the road. As of now, no suspects have been identified, leaving neighbors in a state of shock.
Randy Eaton, a resident of Spartansburg, expressed the community’s disbelief, saying, “Everybody’s just stunned, nobody could even imagine this kind of stuff is going on.”
