Following a 911 call transferred from the Waller County Sheriff’s Office, university police officers intercepted the suspect’s vehicle as it attempted to leave the campus, resulting in the driver’s immediate detention. At the crime scene, officers found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by university police and Waller County EMS personnel, the victim was pronounced dead around 10 a.m.

The identities of both the suspect and victim remain undisclosed, and the duration of their employment at the university is still unknown. Chief Curry did not specify the circumstances leading up to the shooting, and charges against the suspect are pending.

In response to the incident, the university issued a shelter-in-place order, which was later lifted. All classes were canceled for the day, and support services were made available to students and staff through the Student Counseling Services and the Employee Assistance Program.
