A police officer in Santa Clara responded to a domestic disturbance call on Saturday afternoon, resulting in the officer firing a shot at a suspect armed with knives. The incident took place just south of the 1000 block of Kiely Boulevard. According to the Santa Clara Police Department, the 20-year-old suspect had allegedly assaulted a family member before fleeing his home on foot.
Upon locating the suspect, officers instructed him to drop the knives he was holding. However, he reportedly refused to comply with their commands. Despite attempts at verbal de-escalation, the suspect remained uncooperative. As a result, an officer discharged a single round, which regrettably missed its target.
Following a brief struggle with law enforcement, the suspect was apprehended and taken into custody. He sustained minor injuries and was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The investigation into the incident is currently in its preliminary stages.
