A police chase through North and West Springfield ended with the arrest of a tow truck driver. The chase, captured on Ozarks traffic cameras, involved police and deputies pursuing a red tow truck down West Bypass. The driver is believed to have been under the influence, although this has not been confirmed. The truck was later discovered to have been taken without permission from the lot of Affordable Towing, where the driver worked.
The chase began after the driver left the scene of a crash at Glenstone and I-44. The driver’s behavior became increasingly erratic, running red lights and driving recklessly. Efforts to contact the driver were unsuccessful, and he continued to evade police. Spike strips were deployed, but they had little effect on slowing down the driver.
Eventually, the driver was stopped and arrested on Kansas Expressway near Mount Vernon after a brief foot chase. The driver is currently being booked into the Greene County jail, and formal charges are pending. No injuries were reported during the incident.
