An 18-year-old Pleasanton man is currently in grave condition after being shot while driving in Hayward on Thursday night. The incident occurred at approximately 11:11 p.m. near the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Industrial Parkway. The victim’s 17-year-old friend, also from Pleasanton, was wounded but has since been released from the hospital, according to authorities.
The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and police are actively investigating the incident. Officer Cassondra Fovel stated that they are working to determine why the victims were in Hayward at the time of the incident. The two individuals were the sole occupants of the vehicle when the shooting occurred.
After being shot, the victims managed to drive to the 100 block of W. Tennyson Road, where the 17-year-old called 911 for assistance. Both victims were then transported to a nearby hospital, where the younger victim received treatment and was subsequently discharged. However, the 18-year-old remains in grave condition and is currently on life support.
Authorities have not made any arrests in connection with the shooting, and there is no indication at this time that it is related to another shooting that took place on Wednesday in the 24000 block of Second Street. The Wednesday incident resulted in the death of a 15-year-old Rodeo boy and left a 13-year-old boy injured. Detectives are examining the possibility of any connections between the two cases.
