Pennsylvania State Senator’s Son Arrested for Hit-and-Run Injuring Teenage Girl

Pennsylvania State Senator Sharif Street’s son, Sharif Street Jr., has been apprehended in connection with a hit-and-run incident that left a 14-year-old girl injured. The arrest took place on January 29, 2024, several months after the collision occurred on August 13, 2023, near North Broad and Erie Avenue in Philadelphia’s Hunting Park neighborhood.

Surveillance footage obtained from the scene captured Street Jr. striking the teenage girl with a white Nissan Altima. After the collision, the vehicle paused for nearly a minute before fleeing the scene. The victim, who was on her way to church, sustained bruises and a concussion but managed to survive the incident. A witness was able to record the license plate of the vehicle involved.

Following an extensive investigation, law enforcement determined that the vehicle belonged to Street Jr. He was subsequently pulled over a few weeks after the incident, and his car was seized as part of the ongoing inquiry. Detectives also obtained cell phone data, which indicated that a phone associated with the suspect was in the vicinity at the time of the accident, according to court records.

In his statement to the police, Street Jr. claimed that he was visiting family in Atlantic City during the incident and alleged that he had rented the vehicle to an unidentified male. When contacted by phone, Street Jr.’s father, State Senator Sharif Street, declined to comment on the matter.

Street Jr. has been charged with aggravated assault by vehicle, accidents involving death or injury, and other related offenses. He turned himself in to the authorities last month and is currently out on bail. It is worth noting that Street Jr. was also recently charged with disorderly conduct for his involvement in a fight during Mayor Cherelle Parker’s inauguration, where he was reportedly denied entry into The Met, a venue in North Philadelphia. Despite these charges, Street Jr. continues to work as a special assistant in City Councilmember At-Large Jim Harrity’s office, as confirmed by the city.
