An Orthodox Jewish man was subjected to a brutal stabbing in his own driveway in New City, Rockland County, New York. The victim, who remains unnamed, was accosted in front of his residence and viciously attacked by an assailant armed with a weapon. The incident, described by local authorities as a “horrific assault,” occurred in a predominantly Orthodox Jewish community.
The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Elijah Dean of New City, was swiftly apprehended by the Ramapo Police. He is currently being held on a one million dollar cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday to face charges of attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Despite the severity of the attack, hate crime charges have not been filed against Dean at this time. The motive behind the assault remains unclear, leaving investigators to delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The victim sustained multiple stab wounds to his body, including his head and neck, and was promptly transported to the hospital in serious condition. However, medical professionals expect him to survive his injuries.
The Rockland County Human Rights Commission, in response to the incident, expressed their firm stance against any form of animosity and condemned the act of violence. They emphasized the importance of rejecting hate and fostering an environment where such incidents are deemed entirely unacceptable.
