Orange County Man Sentenced to 11 Years for Stealing Vehicles Using Stolen Identities

Jean Anthony Parret, a man from Orange County, has been sentenced to 11 years in state prison for using stolen identities to steal over $400,000 worth of vehicles from car dealerships across Southern California. The California Attorney General’s office announced the sentence, stating that Parret illegally opened lines of credit at multiple car dealerships in the region.

Parret, 49, pleaded guilty to multiple counts of identity and vehicle theft. Starting in November 2021, he used stolen identities to purchase vehicles in Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange, and Ventura counties. Court records reveal that Parret used a stolen identity to open a line of credit and buy a 2021 Ford Ranger at Cal Worthington Ford in Long Beach, a 2020 Ford Ranger at Kia Downtown Los Angeles, a 2021 Nissan Titan at a Nissan dealership in Garden Grove, and another 2020 Ford Ranger at Raceway Ford Riverside.

Additionally, Parret used another victim’s personal information to acquire a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado from a dealership in Montebello and a 2021 Ford F-150 from a dealership in Long Beach. The California Department of Justice’s Special Prosecutions unit charged Parret with 20 counts, including grand theft and identity theft, with special allegations for taking property worth more than $100,000.

Parret had previously been convicted of robbery, identity theft, and forgery in a separate case in December 2021. The Orange County District Attorney’s office emphasized the impact of identity theft on victims, stating that it can have long-lasting consequences such as ruined credit histories and limited employment and housing opportunities.

Prosecutors revealed that Parret defrauded dealerships and financial lenders over a three-month period, causing significant financial losses to the victims. Parret is scheduled to appear in court in early September to surrender his firearms.
