OJ Simpson Dies at 76: A Look Back at the Kardashian Connection

OJ Simpson, the former NFL star and actor, passed away at the age of 76 after battling cancer. While he is remembered for his achievements in football and his involvement in Hollywood, his name will forever be associated with the infamous 1994 police chase in his white Bronco, his subsequent murder trial, and his connection to the Kardashian family.

Before the Kardashians rose to fame as the most well-known reality TV family, they had deep ties to OJ Simpson and his late wife, Nicole Brown Simpson. A photograph from 1994 captured the Kardashian family, including Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe, alongside OJ, Nicole, her sister Dominque Brown, and the Simpson children, Justin and Sydney, during an Easter vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Kris Jenner, who was married to Robert Kardashian Sr. at the time, and Caitlyn Jenner were also present in the photo.

Robert Kardashian Sr., a close friend of Simpson since their college days, served as his lawyer during the highly controversial murder trial. The acquittal of Simpson for the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman was widely criticized as an injustice. The families were so intertwined that Khloe Kardashian referred to OJ as “Uncle OJ” and Nicole as “Aunt Nicole” during her childhood.

Various rumors and allegations surrounded the relationship between OJ Simpson and Kris Jenner. Simpson’s former manager, Norman Pardo, claimed that Simpson bragged about having an affair with Kris while they were both married. There were even unfounded speculations that Simpson could be Khloe Kardashian’s biological father, which Kris vehemently denied.

In a 2015 interview, Lawrence Schiller, author of “American Tragedy: The Uncensored Story of the O.J. Simpson Defense,” revealed that Robert Kardashian Sr. discovered Simpson recording a “suicide tape” in Kim’s childhood bedroom on the day of the infamous Bronco chase. Robert convinced Simpson not to take his own life, emphasizing that his daughter should not be exposed to such a traumatic scene.

The trial had a profound impact on the Kardashian family. Kris Jenner, who was close friends with Nicole Brown Simpson, believed in her friend’s claims of abuse by OJ. She described the trial as devastating for her family, with Robert Kardashian Sr. defending OJ while she mourned the loss of her friend.

In her memoir, Kris wrote about Nicole’s documented evidence of years of abuse by OJ. She vehemently denied rumors of an affair with Simpson and condemned the media for spreading such tasteless and disgusting stories. Kris also alleged that OJ had threatened Nicole, saying he would kill her and get away with it.

The Kardashian children, who were young at the time of the trial, had differing perspectives. Khloe Kardashian, in an interview, expressed the confusion and pain of seeing her parents go through such a difficult situation. Kim Kardashian, in an interview with Rolling Stone, acknowledged her father’s unwavering support for OJ but also recognized the trauma it caused her family.

Following OJ Simpson’s death, Kris Jenner posted a tweet expressing her relief, stating, “Good Riddance #OJSimpson.” However, the Kardashian family has maintained a level of respect for OJ and Nicole’s children, Sydney and Justin.
