Offender Removes GPS Monitor at Ohio Hardware Store

Surveillance cameras captured an offender removing his electronic tether at an Ace Hardware store in Ashtabula, Ohio.

The ankle bracelet is used by authorities to track the movements of lawbreakers.

The incident occurred when the man visited the store and asked an employee for hedge clippers. After being shown the tool, he walked out of sight of the surveillance camera and later placed a small black item on a store shelf in Aisle 1. He then left the store, grabbing a backpack and riding away on a bicycle.

Employees discovered the ankle bracelet on the shelf 15 minutes later and contacted the Ohio Adult Parole Authority. Two parole officers later retrieved the monitor from the store.

The identity of the suspect, the charges he is facing, and his current status are yet to be disclosed by state authorities.
