Off-Duty Oklahoma Police Officer Fires Shot at High School Football Game, Leaving Teen Dead and Man Critically Wounded

An off-duty Oklahoma police officer fired a shot that critically wounded a man during a shooting at a high school football game, which also resulted in the death of a teenager, authorities reported. The incident occurred during the third quarter of Friday night’s game between Del City High School and Choctaw High School in Choctaw, on the outskirts of Oklahoma City.

According to Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson III, the off-duty officer did not shoot the teenager. The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the shooting. Choctaw Police Chief Kelly Marshall, who is leading the investigation into the teenager’s death, stated that the shooting followed an argument between two males. The motive behind the argument remains unknown, and it is unclear if the 42-year-old man who was shot by the police officer was involved in the dispute.

Sheriff Johnson mentioned that the Del City officer perceived a threat, but further details regarding the perceived threat were not disclosed due to the ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made in connection with the teenager’s death, but authorities are seeking a person of interest, as confirmed by Chief Marshall.

The shooting caused chaos at the football game, with players, officials, and spectators scrambling for safety. According to Chief Marshall, two individuals sustained broken bones while fleeing the gunfire. The Del City officer involved in the incident was one of two off-duty officers accompanying the Del City High School team. Both officers are currently on paid leave, according to Del City Police Chief Loyd Berger.

According to Chief Marshall, the 16-year-old victim was not a student at either Choctaw or Del City and expressed uncertainty about the reason for his presence at the game.
