NYPD Sergeant Arrested and Charged with Manslaughter in Bronx Suspect’s Death

An NYPD sergeant, Erik Duran, 36, has been arrested and charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and assault in connection with the death of Eric Duprey, 30, in Kingsbridge Heights, Bronx. The incident occurred on August 23 when Duprey, a deliveryman, was attempting to flee a drug arrest and crashed his scooter. The city Medical Examiner determined that Duprey died from blunt trauma and asphyxia.

Both Mayor Adams and NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban criticized the actions of Sgt. Duran. The prosecution is being handled by attorneys from the state Attorney General Letitia James’s office. Sgt. Duran appeared in the Bronx Hall of Justice on Tuesday morning.
