Northern California Sheriff’s Deputy Found Dead, Boyfriend Suspected of Killing

A Northern California sheriff’s deputy, Deanna Esmaeel, was found dead in her home in Crescent City, California. Her boyfriend, Daniel James Walter, is suspected of killing her, according to the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office. Esmaeel’s body was discovered after a coworker performed a welfare check when she failed to show up for work and did not respond to phone calls.

Deanna Esmaeel, who recently transitioned from a career in Hollywood as an animal trainer, joined the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office in 2021. She was the mother of actor Marty York, known for his role in the movie “The Sandlot.”

Investigators identified Daniel James Walter, also known as Edward Patrick Davies, as Esmaeel’s boyfriend and the suspect in her killing. After a brief search, Walter was taken into custody in Curry County, Oregon. He is now in custody in Del Norte County, California, facing a charge of murder with a bail set at $1 million.

The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office stated that further details cannot be released at this time due to the ongoing homicide investigation. Del Norte County Sheriff Garrett Scott expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Deputy Esmaeel and extended condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues.
