Norman Man Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter After Wife’s Life Sentence

The Norman community is reeling from yet another revelation in the gruesome murder case that has captivated the nation. Just one week after his wife, Desiree Fransen/Sanchez, was sentenced to life in prison for the heinous murder of his half-sister, Octavio Sanchez has now entered a blind plea for manslaughter. The courtroom was filled with tension as the truth behind this twisted tale continued to unravel.

The case centers around the tragic fate of 19-year-old Margarita Sandoval, who had cognitive disabilities. Her family’s worst fears were realized when they stopped hearing from her in early 2018 after she moved in with Octavio and Desiree Sanchez. Little did they know that their beloved daughter and sister had met a horrifying end.

It was in May 2021 that the Norman Police Department received a tip from out-of-state, leading them to a house on W. Lindsey St. What they discovered in the basement sent shockwaves through the community. Margarita’s lifeless body was found inside a tote, meticulously wrapped in tape, plastic wrap, and rope. The gruesome details of her murder were enough to make even the most hardened investigators shudder.

As the investigation unfolded, chilling Facebook messages between Desiree and Octavio Sanchez were uncovered. These messages revealed their callousness and disregard for human life, discussing the need to move the body around the house due to the smell. Octavio himself admitted to someone that “Desiree started it, and I had to finish it.” The depths of their depravity seemed to have no bounds.

But the horror didn’t end there. It was revealed that the Sanchezes had shamelessly continued to collect Margarita’s Social Security disability checks long after her death. They shamelessly siphoned off $30,912 for their own personal use, along with an additional $3,200 from economic impact payments in Margarita’s name. Their greed knew no bounds, as they shamelessly exploited the system for their own gain.

Desiree Fransen/Sanchez was the first to face justice, sentenced in June 2023 to 36 months in federal prison for conspiracy to commit a crime against the United States and aggravated identity theft. Octavio followed suit, receiving a 48-month sentence for the same crimes. Additionally, he was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm in December 2022.

In a dramatic courtroom scene, Desiree was found guilty of Murder in the First Degree and Unlawful Removal of a Dead Body in November 2023. The judge wasted no time in delivering the harshest punishment possible, sentencing her to life in prison on January 11, 2024. The courtroom was filled with a mix of relief and sorrow as justice was finally served.

Now, Octavio Sanchez has taken a surprising turn by entering a blind plea for Manslaughter. The motive behind this unexpected plea remains unclear, leaving the community and legal experts speculating about what could have prompted this sudden change of heart. All eyes will be on the courtroom on March 26, as the judge prepares to hand down Octavio’s sentence.

As the Norman community grapples with the shocking details of this case, the memory of Margarita Sandoval will forever be etched in their hearts. Her tragic story serves as a reminder of the darkness that can lurk within seemingly ordinary lives. The pursuit of justice for Margarita continues, as the community seeks closure and healing in the wake of this unimaginable crime.
