Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have apprehended Chukwudi Ernest Ezirike, a wanted ‘one-chance’ kingpin accused of terrorizing the Kubwa/Zuba highway in the FCT. ‘One-chance’ refers to a fraudulent scheme where criminals pose as taxi or bus drivers to rob or defraud unsuspecting passengers. The arrest was made following credible intelligence received by the police.
Ezirike’s operational vehicle, a blue Golf 3 car with registration number KWL 536 RZ, was also recovered during the operation. The FCT Commissioner of Police, Haruna G. Garba, confirmed the arrest and stated that Ezirike is assisting the police in apprehending his accomplices involved in ‘one-chance’ activities. The investigation is ongoing, and Ezirike will face charges in court upon its conclusion.
In a related development, the newly created Anti-One Chance Squad of the FCT Police Command has recovered ten vehicles suspected to be used in ‘one-chance’ activities within the FCT. Most of these vehicles had tinted glasses. During the search, the police also seized an axe, a cutlass, and a knife believed to be used in criminal activities from the vehicles. Three suspects are currently under investigation.
Additionally, on September 11, 2023, the FCT Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested a notorious kidnapper known as Salisu Abdulahi, alias Gwaska. During the operation, one of the gang members, Baba Dan Tsoho, was shot dead by the police, while others managed to escape. Abdulahi is not only involved in kidnapping activities but also acts as an informant and food supplier to his master, Badume. Badume is a kidnap kingpin responsible for criminal activities in Kaduna, Nasarawa States, as well as Bwari and Mpape in the FCT. Abdulahi is cooperating with the police to apprehend other members of the gang.
The FCT Police Command continues its efforts to combat ‘one-chance’ activities and kidnapping in the region, aiming to ensure the safety and security of residents and commuters.
