The Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence sitting in Ikeja, Lagos State, sentenced Doctor Olufemi Olaleye, the Medical Director of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, to life imprisonment for the defilement of his wife’s niece. Justice Rahman Oshodi found Olaleye guilty of defilement and sexual penetration of a 15-year-old girl. The prosecution successfully proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, with evidence corroborating the victim’s testimony.
Olaleye was arraigned on two counts of defilement and sexual assault by penetration, as charged by the Lagos State Government. The offences were committed between February 2020 and November 2021 at No 17, Layi Ogunbambi close, Maryland, Lagos State. The accused was accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with his wife’s 15-year-old niece and sexually assaulting her by penetrating her mouth with his penis.
During the trial, Olaleye’s wife, Aderemi Olaleye, testified that her husband had been sexually abusing her niece since March 2020. She stated that he introduced pornography and oral sex to the victim, threatening to kill both her and the witness if they disclosed the abuse. The girl eventually confided in a relative and their driver about the doctor’s actions.
Justice Oshodi granted Olaleye bail in the sum of N50m with two sureties in like sum, requiring them to possess landed property in Lagos State and provide evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government for the past three years. The judge also ordered Olaleye to surrender his international and British passports, as well as the original documents of his landed property, to the court registrar.
