Kristy Lynn Felkins, a 38-year-old woman from Fallon, Nevada, has been sentenced to five years in prison for hiring a hitman on the internet to kill her ex-husband.

In March, Felkins pleaded guilty to a murder-for-hire charge as part of a deal with federal prosecutors. The court records show that she admitted to communicating with someone on a dark web hitman website known as Besa Mafia in 2016. She intended to have her ex-husband killed while he was traveling in Chico, California. However, authorities described the website as a scam that took money from unsuspecting customers.

Felkins admitted to offering an additional $4,000 to expedite the murder plot and expressed indifference towards her ex-husband’s new girlfriend’s safety. She expected to receive a substantial life insurance payment after her ex-husband’s death, which she requested to be made to look like an accident.

Felkins, who has been out of custody, has been ordered to surrender in September to begin serving her prison sentence.
