NBA player Josh Giddey is currently under investigation for an alleged inappropriate relationship with a girl who is believed to be underage. Last week, photos and videos surfaced on social media, prompting the NBA to launch its own investigation into the matter. The Newport Beach Police Department in California has also opened an investigation to determine if a crime has occurred.
Sgt. Steve Oberon confirmed on Wednesday morning that they are looking into the allegations and investigating whether or not a crime took place. However, there has been limited cooperation from the girl and her family with the ongoing investigation. The social media account that initially made the allegations has since been deactivated.
Thunder coach Mark Daigneault has referred to the situation as a “personal matter” and has declined to comment further. He confirmed that Giddey will continue playing for the team while the police inquiry is ongoing. Giddey has played in both of the Thunder’s recent games, receiving boos from the crowd during the game against the Timberwolves.
