Murder Trial of Robert L. Moore Resumes for 2009 Disappearance of Glenna J. White

The trial of Robert L. Moore, charged with the murder of 16-year-old Glenna J. White in 2009, is set to recommence today. The proceedings, overseen by Judge Maureen Sweeney of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, have experienced multiple delays for various reasons, including juror issues and witness complications.

One significant hindrance was a potential juror’s outburst on the scheduled start day, coupled with the inability of a key witness to testify due to a recent arrest. This arrest raised questions about its potential role as evidence, necessitating further examination by the defense. Additionally, another attorney on the case contracted COVID-19, leading to further postponement.

Uncertainties linger regarding the resolution of the witness’s arrest issue, which was still under discussion at a final pretrial meeting on Wednesday.

The case’s complexity is heightened by geographic factors. White lived in the Alliance area of Stark County, but she was last seen in Smith Township, Mahoning County. The overlapping jurisdictions have seen involvement from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, which ultimately spearheaded the investigation.

Moore, 53, residing in Lexington Township, Stark County, but with an Alliance address, was present at the Smith Township home the night of White’s disappearance. Stark County Sheriff’s Office initially investigated the case but handed it over to the Smith Township Police Department upon realizing the location of White’s disappearance fell under their jurisdiction, as noted by Sgt. George Starr.

The investigation has been further complicated by the fact that White’s body has never been found, and the geographic overlap between Stark and Mahoning counties in Alliance.

Moore faces a murder charge, with a potential sentence of 15 years to life if convicted.
