Virginia State Police are currently investigating a series of hit-and-run crashes involving multiple stolen vehicles in Arlington County. The incident began in Falls Church when a man, identified as 30-year-old Darryl Caldwell from Brandywine, MD, stole a truck. He then proceeded to enter I-395 N in Arlington, where he collided with at least 10 vehicles before coming to a stop.

The situation escalated further when Caldwell allegedly stole an ambulance that arrived at the scene to provide assistance. He led police on a chase into Southwest DC, where officers were finally able to apprehend him. The chaotic sequence of events unfolded on Saturday afternoon, causing significant disruption and endangering the lives of numerous individuals.

State police have accounted for and are investigating a total of 13 hit-and-run crashes committed by the stolen vehicles. The crashes occurred on I-66, I-395, and the GW Parkway, with Caldwell allegedly fleeing the scenes after causing each collision. During the pursuit, Caldwell also collided with another driver while driving the wrong way on the GW Parkway.

While responding to the initial crash on I-395, crews inside an Arlington County Fire Department ambulance encountered the GW Parkway crash and stopped to provide assistance. However, Caldwell took advantage of the situation and stole the ambulance, further complicating the ongoing police chase.
