A mother was tragically killed, and two young children are currently in critical condition following a hammer attack in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon at an apartment building on 52nd Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. Police responded to a 911 call reporting an ongoing assault at approximately 2:50 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers apprehended the suspect, who appeared to have blood on him, as he was attempting to leave the building. Inside the apartment on the second floor, authorities discovered a mother, her 5-year-old son, and her 3-year-old daughter with severe injuries. All three victims were promptly transported to local hospitals for medical treatment.
Tragically, the mother succumbed to her injuries, while the two children are currently fighting for their lives. The suspect resided in the same apartment as the victims, although they are not related, according to the police.
