Tiffanie Lucas, 32, of Shepherdsville, Ky.

In a tragic development, the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Department has apprehended Tiffanie Lucas, a 32-year-old mother from Shepherdsville, following a double shooting that resulted in the deaths of her two children.

Lucas faces two counts of murder and is currently detained at the Bullitt County Detention Center. The incident unfolded in a home located in the 200 block of Bentwood Drive, where police officers, responding around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, discovered the two children shot. A gun was found on the bed, according to the arrest citation.

Both children, aged nine and six, whose identities remain undisclosed, were rushed to Norton Children’s Hospital but succumbed to their injuries.

The Bullitt County neighborhood, typically quiet and considered safe by residents, was enveloped in shock and disbelief following the incident. Steve Steier, a local resident, expressed his astonishment, noting the unusual nature of such a tragic event in their community.

The scene was marked by the presence of investigators and numerous police vehicles, an unfamiliar sight for the residents. Steier recalled seeing a significant number of emergency and police vehicles at the location.

The boys were found covered in blood in a bedroom and urgently transported to the hospital, escorted by police. Witnesses’ statements led to Lucas being charged with murder.

Neighbors reported they had seen the boys playing outside just a day earlier. While not personally acquainted with the family, the community is deeply affected by the loss of young lives.

Steier, reflecting on the incident, emphasized his own safety measures and expressed profound sorrow over the deaths of the two boys. “It just breaks my heart,” he said, lamenting the loss of life and potential in such young children.
