Shivanthi Sathanandan, the 2nd Vice Chair of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, was violently attacked and carjacked in front of her children in the driveway of her Minneapolis home. The incident occurred in broad daylight and involved four young men armed with guns. Sathanandan suffered a broken leg, deep lacerations on her head, and cuts and bruises all over her body.

The attack on Sathanandan, who is also known for her anti-police activism, has garnered attention from conservative commentators. Some have expressed schadenfreude, suggesting that the incident is a consequence of progressive calls to “reimagine policing” or dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department.

Sathanandan herself expressed anger about the attack, describing the assailants as young men who beat her violently to the ground in front of her children. She also mentioned that the perpetrators held her neighbors at gunpoint when they tried to intervene.
