Minneapolis police are conducting an investigation into a shooting incident that resulted in the death of a man. The authorities responded to a report of a shooting in the 800 block of NE Main St. at approximately 1:10 a.m. on Saturday. Upon arrival, they discovered a man with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers provided assistance until emergency personnel arrived and transported the victim to HCMC. The man, identified as 34-year-old Shawn Deonta Torrence by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Shortly after the shooting was reported, an abandoned vehicle was found on fire about 10 blocks away, near California Street and 18th Avenue NE. Additionally, an attempted auto theft was reported around the same time, approximately five blocks from the vehicle fire, at 17th and University avenues NE. The Minneapolis Police Department spokesman, Adam Kennedy, stated in a news release that although it is unknown if these incidents are related, they are being treated as such at this time.
