Migrant Suspect Sought in Stabbing Outside Hotel Shelter in Hell’s Kitchen

Police are currently on the lookout for a migrant accused of stabbing another asylum seeker during a scuffle outside a hotel shelter in Hell’s Kitchen. The incident occurred outside the Watson Hotel on West 57th Street, which has been converted into a shelter to accommodate migrants amidst the ongoing migrant crisis. The suspect managed to flee the scene after slashing the 35-year-old victim, who is also a migrant, during a dispute.

According to a witness, a parking garage attendant, the victim appeared to have instigated the fight and even chased the suspect with a stick before being stabbed. The attendant further mentioned that the suspect seemed to be trying to avoid a confrontation with the smaller victim, whose wife was encouraging him during the scuffle. “The guy who got stabbed was the problem,” the witness stated.

The victim was promptly transported to Mount Sinai West Hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition. The attendant also revealed that the hotel frequently experiences minor altercations, requiring police intervention. The Watson Hotel, previously a three-star establishment, was repurposed to accommodate the influx of migrants from the US-Mexico border over the past two years. At one point, numerous migrants were residing in tents outside the hotel due to its capacity limitations. Last year, the hotel was the site of a tense standoff between migrants who refused to relocate to new living arrangements provided by the city at the Brooklyn Cruise terminal.
