Darwin Andres Gomez-Izquiel, one of the migrants allegedly involved in a mob assault on two police officers in Times Square, has been arrested again. This time, he was apprehended for participating in a coordinated robbery at a Macy’s store located in the Queens Center Mall. The 19-year-old was taken into custody on Tuesday night and has been charged with robbery and petit larceny, according to the police.
Gomez-Izquiel is one of four individuals accused of entering the Queens Center Mall around 5:33 p.m. on Tuesday and acting in concert to steal clothes, which they attempted to conceal in bags. When a 27-year-old security guard confronted the group, a struggle ensued, resulting in one of the suspects punching the guard in the face. Although the security guard sustained minor injuries, he declined medical attention at the scene.
Previously, Gomez-Izquiel faced charges of second-degree assault on a police officer and obstructing governmental administration for his involvement in the Times Square attack, which was captured on camera at the end of January. The video footage depicted Gomez-Izquiel and a gang of other asylum-seekers kicking the two New York police officers in the head and body before fleeing.
The remaining suspects involved in Tuesday’s alleged robbery were last seen fleeing westbound on Queens Boulevard, carrying approximately $608 worth of assorted clothing. One of the suspects is described as a 5-foot-8 individual with a tan complexion and a thin build, wearing a multicolored baseball cap, blue jacket, gray jeans, black sneakers, and carrying a black bag. Another suspect, a woman approximately 5-foot-6 tall with a light complexion and medium build, was last seen wearing a black bubble jacket with a black hooded sweatshirt underneath, blue jeans, black sneakers, and carrying a dark-colored bag. The third suspect, a 5-foot-10 man with a medium complexion and build, was last seen wearing a black skull cap, black bubble jacket with a black hooded sweatshirt underneath, black jeans, and black and white sneakers.
