The younger brother of Michigan Democratic congressman, Dan Kildee, was tragically murdered early Tuesday in Vienna Township, just north of Flint. Timothy Kildee, 57, was shot and killed, and authorities have arrested his adult son in connection with the crime. The suspect, a 27-year-old individual whose name has not been disclosed due to pending charges, is currently hospitalized with serious injuries sustained during a subsequent car crash.
Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson provided details of the incident, stating that law enforcement initially responded to a domestic dispute in Burton, Michigan, unrelated to Timothy Kildee. However, the suspect was present at another family member’s residence and a confrontation ensued. During the altercation, a firearm was brandished, and the suspect subsequently fled the scene.
The suspect contacted his mother, Timothy Kildee’s ex-wife, who picked him up to take him back to his father’s house. However, the suspect reportedly jumped out of the moving vehicle and fled once again. Timothy Kildee and his ex-wife then began searching for the suspect. Upon returning home without his ex-wife, Kildee’s other son, who was sleeping in the basement, reported hearing a heated argument between his father and the suspect. The son overheard the suspect demanding Kildee’s wallet and keys before a single gunshot was fired.
The suspect was found in possession of Timothy Kildee’s wallet and subsequently commandeered his father’s truck. Approximately eight minutes later, the suspect crashed the stolen vehicle into another pickup truck, which was carrying two individuals. Fortunately, the occupants of the pickup truck sustained only minor injuries.
Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive for the murder, but Sheriff Swanson mentioned the possibility of substance abuse and suggested that the suspect’s violent behavior may be linked to personal issues or a breakdown. The investigation is ongoing, and Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton has indicated that the suspect could face charges including murder, carjacking, and armed robbery.
Congressman Dan Kildee, who was in Washington at the time of the incident, is returning to Michigan to be with his family. The Kildee family has requested privacy during this difficult time, as they cope with the tragic loss of their beloved brother and family member.
