May 17, 1968 – Tent girl

Wilbur Riddle was scavenging along U.S. Route 25 in Georgetown, Ky. on May 17th, 1969 when he discovered a decomposing body wrapped in a green tarp. Police called to the scene found a woman between 16 and 19 years old with reddish-brown hair and a gap in her teeth. Authorities were unable to positively identify her.

Police initiated an investigation and attempted to publicize the woman’s appearance but no one came forward. “Tent Girl” was buried nameless at Georgetown Cemetery.

The body would go unidentified for more than 30 years until a description on a missing persons website helped solve the case. In April 1998, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, aided by Todd Matthews of Livingston, Tennessee, identified the “Tent Girl” as Barbara Ann Hackmann Taylor.
