Masked armed robbers targeted a home in Golden Valley, Minnesota, tying up and gagging the residents before making off with various valuables, including jewels, a sports car, designer purses, gaming systems, and eight high-priced purebred puppies. The incident occurred late Saturday at a residence on Medicine Lake Road. Police suspect that the robbers had inside help, specifically a family member, who facilitated the crime by letting the other suspects into the home.
According to Police Chief Virgil Green, the suspects knew exactly what they were looking for when they entered the home. Although no arrests have been made as of Wednesday afternoon, authorities are confident that their information about the suspects will lead to their apprehension.
The victims reported that three suspects wearing ski masks and carrying guns forced them into the kitchen, where they were bound with duct tape. The robbers stole jewelry, gaming systems, designer purses, and eight American bully merle puppies, valued between $5,000 and $10,000 each. The suspects also took a 2019 Dodge Challenger, which was later recovered in Minneapolis.
Police estimate the total value of the stolen items to be over $100,000. Chief Green stated that the robbers used force to coerce the residents into opening a safe, threatening to harm them if they did not comply. A friend of one of the victims described the traumatic experience, highlighting the emotional and mental toll it has taken on the couple.
The stolen puppies, only six weeks old, are at high risk for illness as they have not yet visited a veterinarian or received vaccinations. Their mother, left behind during the robbery, is in distress as she is not able to nurse her puppies. A breeder familiar with the couple expressed doubts about the thieves’ ability to sell the puppies due to the necessary breeding certificates and the unique genetic markings of the American bully merle dogs.
The investigation into the robbery is now being led by the Hennepin County Violent Offenders Task Force, who have acquired information about the suspects. Authorities urge anyone with information related to the incident to contact the police.
