Marni Yang Attends Post-Conviction Hearing for 2011 Murder of Ex-Chicago Bear’s Pregnant Girlfriend Rhoni Reuter

Marni Yang

Marni Yang, serving a double life sentence for the murder of Rhoni Reuter, the pregnant girlfriend of former Chicago Bear Shaun Gayle, is set for a post-conviction hearing on Monday. Yang, convicted in 2011, has consistently maintained her innocence in the case involving Reuter, who was found shot in her Deerfield home.

CBS 2’s Asal Rezaei reports that Yang’s legal team has been granted a new hearing to present their arguments. They claim new evidence overlooked by the state proves Yang’s innocence. The prosecution’s case included an undercover recording where Yang confessed to the murder, which her attorneys argue was a coerced confession to protect others.

Yang is expected to appear in a Lake County courtroom at 2 p.m. While her defense pushes for exoneration, Reuter’s family remains convinced of her guilt.
