Manteca Man Arrested for Pointing Handgun in Road Rage Incident

A Manteca man, identified as Joel Dunn, 51, was apprehended on Monday in connection with a road rage incident that occurred earlier this month in Sonoma County. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office reported that Dunn allegedly brandished a handgun and aimed it at two victims who were traveling with children in the backseat of their car.

The incident unfolded on June 9 when the victims found themselves stuck in traffic on Highway 37. Without warning, Dunn exited his vehicle and brandished a loaded .40 caliber handgun, according to authorities. He then proceeded to point the firearm at both victims, threatening to shoot, before returning to his car and driving away.

Law enforcement officials swiftly launched an investigation into the road rage incident, identifying Joel Dunn as the primary suspect. Subsequently, arrest and search warrants were obtained for Dunn’s residence in Manteca. During the execution of the search warrant, detectives discovered a loaded, unserialized .40 caliber handgun, two carbon dioxide-powered pepperball guns, a collapsible baton, and pepper spray.

Joel Dunn was taken into custody and subsequently booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on multiple felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, and child endangerment. He was later released after posting a $50,000 bail.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office has emphasized the seriousness of this incident, particularly due to the presence of children in the victims’ vehicle. The arrest and subsequent seizure of weapons highlight the potential danger posed by road rage incidents and the importance of swift law enforcement action.
