Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg to Testify Before GOP-Led House Committee on Trump Hush-Money Case

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has agreed to testify before a GOP-led House committee regarding the hush-money case against former President Donald Trump. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan demanded Bragg’s testimony at a planned session on June 13, focusing on what he called the “unprecedented political prosecution of President Trump.” The committee also targeted prosecutor Matthew Colangelo, who transitioned from federal roles to join the Manhattan DA’s team in 2022, raising concerns of political motivation.

Trump was found guilty on 34 counts related to falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments aimed at covering up damaging stories, including an alleged affair with Stormy Daniels. He is set to be sentenced on July 11, just before the Republican National Convention where he is expected to be named the party’s 2024 presidential nominee.

The Manhattan court is investigating a social media post claiming a juror’s intention before the verdict in Trump’s case. House Republicans have criticized the prosecution, with some threatening actions against the Justice Department. Attorney General Merrick Garland has vowed to defend democracy and resist political influence.

Jordan, who chairs the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, previously clashed with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis over Trump’s prosecution for alleged election fraud. The 10 counts in Fulton County are pending an appeal regarding Willis’s involvement due to an affair with the former special prosecutor on the case.
