Philadelphia police are currently investigating a suspected road rage incident that resulted in a man being shot multiple times. The incident occurred at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday at the intersection of Erie Avenue and 9th Street in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia.
According to authorities, the victim, an 18-year-old male, was driving a car when it was involved in a collision with at least three other vehicles. Shortly after the accident, the situation escalated when an individual, believed to be connected to the accident, fired multiple shots into the victim’s sedan. The victim was struck at least five times in the chest.
Despite his injuries, the victim managed to flag down patrolling officers near Front and Erie Avenue, close to St. Christopher’s Children’s Hospital. The officers quickly pulled him out of the vehicle and rushed him to Temple University Hospital for immediate medical attention. Although he is currently in critical condition, medical professionals expect him to survive.
Fortunately, a 16-year-old who was also in the car with the victim escaped unharmed. The incident is still under investigation, and it remains unclear whether any arrests have been made at this time.
The Philadelphia Police Department, led by Chief Inspector Scott Small, is urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and contact them at 215-686-TIPS.
As the investigation continues, authorities are examining the vehicles involved in the shooting. Chopper 6 provided aerial coverage of the scene as police worked to gather evidence.
