A 24-year-old man, Moctezuma Garcia, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday in Multnomah County Circuit Court to attempted murder charges. The charges stem from two separate attacks that occurred within 30 minutes and three blocks of each other in downtown Portland on August 26. In the first attack, Garcia allegedly slashed a man’s throat, and in the second attack, he allegedly stabbed another man in the chest.
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s office has requested that Garcia be held in custody for the duration of his case, according to spokesperson Elizabeth Merah. The court will now proceed with the legal proceedings as Garcia maintains his plea of not guilty.
