The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified the man found dead with gunshot wounds in a stolen U-Haul van in Rio Linda as 47-year-old Alejandro Alcaraz-Juarez.
The discovery was made in a rural neighborhood on I Street, near Elkhorn Boulevard and Dry Creek Road, near Rio Linda High School. A resident alerted authorities about the parked U-Haul van, leading to the involvement of the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The CHP determined that the van had been reported stolen from the south Sacramento area on August 17. The duration of its presence in the Rio Linda location remains unknown.
Upon inspection, law enforcement found a body in the backseat of the U-Haul van and contacted the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office has confirmed that the death is being investigated as a homicide. Crime lab personnel and crime scene investigators were dispatched to the scene.
