Authorities in East Palo Alto are seeking the public’s assistance in solving the murder of Leonard Clark, a 54-year-old resident of the city. The incident occurred on Monday morning when a community member alerted an officer to an injured man on Newell Road near West Bayshore Road, according to a news release by East Palo Alto Police Chief Jeff Liu.
Upon arrival, the officer discovered Clark deceased at the scene. Initially, investigators were unable to determine the cause of death or if a crime had taken place. However, an autopsy conducted by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday revealed that Clark’s injury was “criminal in nature,” as stated by Chief Liu. No further details regarding the nature of the injury were provided at this time.
This tragic event marks the second homicide in East Palo Alto this year, according to Chief Liu. Urging the community’s cooperation, he emphasized the importance of their assistance in solving the crime. Mothers Against Murder, a Peninsula-based nonprofit organization, has offered a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for Clark’s death.
