A man was fatally shot and a woman critically injured in Oakley, California, following an apparent domestic dispute, according to local police. The incident occurred on Tuesday in the 1700 block of Pecan Court. Police were initially called to the location around 4:50 p.m. for a welfare check on a woman who had not shown up for work. After speaking with neighbors and finding nothing suspicious, officers left the scene.
Less than an hour later, a neighbor visited the house and noticed two individuals, including a distressed woman. The neighbor promptly alerted the authorities, who re-entered the residence. Inside, they discovered a man who had been fatally shot and a woman with a severe gunshot wound. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was airlifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The identities of the victims have not been released pending notification of their next-of-kin. Oakley Police Chief Paul Beard expressed his dismay over the incident, stating that it was “completely unnecessary and avoidable.” He urged individuals in dangerous relationships to seek help from available resources.
